How to Write an Abstract
Are you ready to submit your work and want some guidance on how to write an abstract? Below are resources providing ‘tips and tricks’ you may wish to reference, however, please follow the guidelines provided on this page for submitting your abstract.

Abstract Submission Guidelines
Key Dates
Abstract submission deadline:
• Wednesday, November 20, 2024, midnight Pacific Standard Time (PST).
Peer review by the ISOPP and CAPhO Research Committees:
• Thursday, November 21 to Sunday, December 8, 2024.
Acceptance notification to the submitting author via email:
• Week of December 9, 2024.
Presenting Author Registration Deadline:
• Wednesday, January 8, 2025
Electronic version of Poster submission deadline: (applies to all accepted abstracts):
• Monday, March 17, 2025
Presenting Author Registration
The presenting author of an accepted abstract MUST register for the Symposium by Wednesday, January 8, 2025 or the abstract will automatically be withdrawn. The submitting author is responsible for notifying the presenting author of the registration deadline.
Publication
All accepted abstracts will be published (online only) in a supplement of the Journal of Oncology Pharmacy Practice (JOPP) in April 2025 provided the presenting author registers for the Symposium by Wednesday, January 8, 2025. By submitting an abstract, you consent to the publication of this abstract in JOPP and on ISOPP, CAPhO and the ISOPP CAPhO 2025 websites.
Conflict of Interest Disclosure
During the abstract submission process, you will be asked to disclose any conflicts of interest.
Author Information
The first author MUST be the presenting author.
Information required from all authors:
- Name
- Phone number
- Email address
- Affiliation
- ISOPP member and/or CAPhO member or non-member
Preferred Presentation Type
Please select one of the following presentation options during online abstract submission:
- Platform or Poster
The Presenting author must be either an ISOPP member or a CAPhO member to be considered for a platform (oral) presentation. Not a member? Join ISOPP and/or CAPhO. There are a limited number of platform presentation timeslots in the program.
- Poster
All accepted abstracts are presented as a poster even if the abstract is also accepted for a platform presentation. Encore presentations are considered for posters only, and not judged for awards.
Title and Content
The abstract title must be less than 150 characters. Please use title case e.g. Upper and Lower Case and NOT UPPER CASE. The submission system will prompt you to follow the following abstract format:
- Introduction / Objectives
- Study Design / Methods
- Results / Key Findings
- Discussion
- Conclusion / Recommendations
- References (include up to 5, if applicable)
- Sources of Funding
Note: Abstracts must describe completed research or project work (i.e. contain results and conclusions) and can include up to 5 references.
Poster Abstract Submission Categories
The following 5 submission categories are available:
- Administration and Process Improvement (AP): e.g. projects looking at descriptions of aseptic or clinical service delivery, staff training, health economic evaluations.
- Clinical Research / Evaluations (CRE): e.g. drug use evaluations, retrospective chart reviews, unique clinical cases, pharmacy interventions, meta-analyses or scoping reviews on clinical topics, clinical trials, clinical outcome studies.
- Translational/Basic Science (TS): e.g. drug stability studies, pharmacokinetics, pharmacogenomics.
- Trainee (TR): Projects and research conducted by students, residents, fellows, pharmacy interns, or pharmacists-in-training.
- Encore Presentation (EN): For data/abstracts that have previously been presented at another meeting or published in a professional journal.
Abstract Length
The abstract length is limited to 500 words, not including the abstract title, author names, affiliations, references or source of funding.
Abbreviations
The use of standard abbreviations is desirable if understood globally.
Language
Abstracts are accepted in English.
Number of Submissions
An individual may submit up to two abstracts as primary author. There is no limit on the number of abstracts that an individual can co-author.
Sponsor
If applicable, please provide the name and contact information (including phone and email) of the abstract sponsor.
Platform Presentation Information
Platform presentations are 10 - 15 minutes in duration including questions from the audience. Presentation specifics will be communicated to the submitting author closer to the Symposium date. The first author must be the presenting author.
Poster Display Details
Poster Specifications
- All new posters are not to exceed 42 inches x 42 inches in dimension. There will be two posters per board surface. If your poster exceeds the size limit, it may be removed.
- Encore posters that exceed 42 inches x 42 inches size must be pre-approved by the Symposium Organizers, and in which case, please email info@isoppcapho2025.org to advise of your poster size.
- All posters must be displayed on poster material. Sheets paper glued together, or the like will not be accepted.
- Materials must be readable from a distance of 3 feet or more
- The font used must be a minimum of 20 points
- Industry-sponsored posters must clearly be identified as such - please state on your poster "Sponsored by (Company name/s)"
- Optional: Include QR code for a 5 – 7-minute narrated presentation about your poster
Poster Viewing Session Attendance - Mandatory
Presenting authors must be present during the dedicated time for research poster viewing (mandatory for poster authors) scheduled for Friday, April 4 at 16:00 – 17:00 and subject to change.
PDF Poster
An electronic version of the poster is required to be sent to info@isoppcapho2025.org by Monday, March 17 for posting on the Symposium app and online platform. All accepted posters will be posted on the ISOPP, CAPhO and the 2025 Symposium websites and available for viewing from April 2 onwards.
Poster and Oral Abstract Awards
Oral Abstract Awards
The top 4 abstracts will be selected to make a presentation during the Platform Presentations Plenary on Sunday, April 6, from 9:00 - 10:00 (subject to change). Those selected will also be invited to attend a future CAPhO Conference or ISOPP Symposium complimentary in either 2026 or 2027.
And the next top 6 abstracts to be selected will present during the Platform Presentations concurrent session on Saturday, April 5, from 11:30 – 12:30 (subject to change).
Poster Awards
Poster presentations will be judged by the ISOPP and CAPhO Research Committees. Members from ISOPP and CAPhO Leadership may also judge the posters, if needed. Presenting authors must be ISOPP and/or CAPhO members for the poster to be considered for an award. Encore presentations are not eligible for an award.
There will be four Poster Awards presented and with a certificate and cash award:
- Best Poster for Administration and Process Improvement (AP): - $500
- Best Poster for Clinical Research / Evaluations (CRE) - $500
- Best Poster for Translational/Basic Science (TS) - $500
- Best Poster for Trainee (TR) - $500
Abstract Submission Terms and Conditions
- An individual may submit up to two poster abstracts as primary author. There is no limit on the number of abstracts that an individual can co-author.
- All submissions will be kept by the ISOPP CAPhO Symposium 2025 organizers.
- All submissions are subject to review by the ISOPP and CAPhO Research Committees, who reserve the right to decline any abstract for any reason. Members from ISOPP and CAPhO Leadership may also review abstracts if needed.
- Submitting authors will be notified of the ISOPP and CAPhO Research Committee's decision(s) by email the week of December 9, 2024.
- The presenting author must register for the Symposium by Wednesday, January 8, 2025.
- The presenting author must bring a hard copy version of the poster to the Symposium following the specific details on hard copy poster presentations in the guidelines as well as submit an electronic version. The electronic version must be sent to info@isoppcapho2025.org by Monday, March 17, 2025.
- All accepted posters will be posted on the ISOPP and CAPhO and 2025 Symposium websites, Symposium App and online platform and will be available for viewing from April 2, 2025 onwards.
- By submitting an abstract to the ISOPP CAPhO Symposium 2025 the authors give consent to have their abstract published in the JOPP supplement and online.
- Authors agree to declare any conflict of interests and/or issues concerning copyright during the submission process.
